"I was a shy child and I guess
I had more confidence singing than talking. I used to think people should
have a choice between speaking or singing a conversation."
For over 30 years, Lisa Manning has been involved with many genres of entertainment. These include Broadway ("Tonite" and Lincoln Center), National tour ("Roar of the Greasepaint"), lounge work for many chains nationally ( includes Sheratons, Hiltons, Rock Resorts), TV (extra on "All My Children", "One Life to Live", an NBC special and cable TV), a USO Caribbean Tour, Cruise ships (QE2 World Cruise and 14 others), Spokesperson (NY Coliseum, International Toy Show), Jingles (Purina Cat Chow) , Recordings ("Grease" for Europe and Columbia Records) and Stock (Cape Cod Melody Tent, North and South Shore Music Theatres). She's a graduate of Professional Children's School and American Musical and Dramatic Academy, studied acting with Philip Burton (Richard's stepfather) and voice and dance privately. She had the honor of working with, or for, notables such as Rosemary Clooney, Florence Henderson, Tenn. Ernie Ford, Victor Borge, James Galway, Jimmy Dean, Elaine Stritch, Joe Layton and Richard Rodgers of Rodgers and Hammerstein. She sang at the Hotel Plaza as well as in Times Square for former Mayor John Lindsay.
After leaving NY for Small Town, USA, more recently she has been involved with entertaining at corporate parties, libraries, retirement communities, church groups, AARP, schools, nursing homes, senior centers, civic organizations, recreation facilities and concerts in the park. About five years ago, Lisa decided to write theme scripts for one woman shows, meticulously edited in music studios, to present stimulating, fast paced, energetic shows. The themes are researched with attention to detail. Puppets were introduced in 2000 for humor and young and old alike enjoy this added attraction. Puppets "sing live" or sometimes the voices are pre-dubbed, allowing Lisa to harmonize and dance with one of the troupe of 35! On occasion Lisa is upstaged by a puppet and in some circles she's known as the Puppet Lady, which suits her fine. Hence, *LISA & FRIENDS* was born!
*LISA & FRIENDS* of Lisa Manning Productions offers unique, multi-dimensional shows with music, movement, educational tidbits, puppets, voluntary participation, and lots of contagious enthusiasm shared with her audience. She enjoys connecting with everyone present, from 2 to 102, to make it a memorable, high spirited event.
Music has always been an important part of my life and performing has given me the opportunity to see the world and meet wonderful people.
I'm having more fun now than ever! Please feel free to visit my Gallery page to see more photos!
